Bespoke Wedding & Celebration Cakes designed & created by Vicki @ The Cake Whisk

INNOVATIVE             STYLISH                   ELEGANT                     BESPOKE

Hello!

I am Vicki and my home based family business The Cake Whisk is in Rochdale. I create stunning wedding cakes, amazing birthday cakes, fabulous connoisseur cupcakes and other celebration cakes for delivery around Rochdale, Saddleworth, Oldham, Bolton, Bury, Blackburn, Manchester and most of the North West!

I have been making and designing cakes for getting on 30 years now having attended college in Oldham to learn how to decorate cakes when  my children were little. Initially, cakes were created for family and friends, but as the circle grew, before I knew it I had a business!

My husband Brian is the cornerstone to our business... he is the unsung hero: washing up; driving; making pots of tea; checking stock; driving; soothing burns and cuts; more washing up and a bit more driving! But most of all making it possible for me to get The Cake Whisk off the ground and to keep developing ourselves and the business. I am completely passionate about all of the cakes I make, no matter the size or budget, and in recent months I have taken a chocolate course at Slatterys the chocolatiers in Manchester ... keeping my skills fresh and adding new strings to my bow!

When I was growing up, my Gran looked after me during school holidays and I was so lucky as she was great at baking. She was of the generation that had made do and mended, and managed to make best use out of the limited stuff that was available during and after the war. The house always seemed to smell of nutmeg, from home-made custard tarts or rice pudding - we used to fight over the caramelised skin on the pudding! I remember getting burned fingers and lips from eating brandy snaps while they were still hot! I still have some of Grans recipes that are handwritten on the underside pages of a book of invoices (re-cycling… of course!)

Skip forward a couple of generations and I am delighted that home-baking is finally becoming important again after being lost; during the 80s/90s/00s. Like I say, I am so lucky that I was so inspired by Grans skills and passion and can now use them every day in what I do.

SO - I am hoping you will find inspiration here - whether from me or from those who come to my website and share their experiences (good and/or bad!), skills, techniques, tips and of course any handwritten recipes that they may have and are willing to share.

I will be sharing loads of information about many of the recipes I use, and how I make them. Some have been my recipes for many years and are just like family and friends to me. Others are new ones picked up, and tried and tested, and used, and may be put back down again, maybe it will be incorporated into others.  We all have different ways of doing things, so I am also hoping that we can get a good positive sharing of recipes and tips on here.

This website is also about showcasing the wedding and celebration cakes that I have made, and continue to make in my day to day business. Whether your tastes are contemporary chic, ultra glamorous or understated, the cake for your special occasion, will be so good you won’t want to cut into it. Hand-made sugar flowers; porcelain fine petals and leaves; fluttery butterflies; intertwined hearts; elegant hand piped lace daintily finished with crystals or pearls; many of the decorations are carefully made to be kept as keepsakes afterwards.

Your wedding cake will be carefully delivered to and set up at your venue and we don’t charge for this service if it is within a 50 mile radius of Rochdale. Celebration cakes over £50 or needing the cupcake tower or special stands are also delivered and set up free of charge. For all other cakes, please ring for details.

As a contemporary alternative to a formal wedding cake, I also provide beautifully designed wedding cupcakes accompanied if required by a matching cutting cake.

I am passionate about creating stunning cakes for all occasions. Every cake is made to order and to suit your individual style and personality and needs.

I take care of the details so that you are left to enjoy your special day.

Happy planning

Best wishes

Vicki
